This Same Jesus
(2) “This” - for Complete Guidance
As Christ ascended into heaven, the apostles stared in amazement. As they did so, two angels said: “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” 1
“This same Jesus” – consider the word “This”.
Notice that the angels drew the disciples’ attention to Jesus alone. That, of course, was what Peter asserted later to the Sanhedrin. Speaking of how they had crucified Him, and yet God had raised Him up from the dead, Peter declared: “This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” 2
This cannot be repeated too often. Hold it before you every day of your life. It will guide you and others safely to heaven. Always give Jesus the highest honour; for, as Peter said at Caesarea at the house of Cornelius the centurion: “He is Lord of all.”3
“This, this is the God we adore,
Our faithful, unchangeable Friend;
Whose love is as great as His power,
And neither knows measure nor end.”4
